Overview

Patrick Moyle is an expert in professional learning, with a focus on using technologies such as artificial intelligence to strengthen teaching and learning in ways that align with well-established principles of pedagogy and andragogy. As Project Director of the Digital Fluency Project, Moyle helps schools, districts, and regional education agencies design professional learning that expands educator practice while ensuring technology supports, rather than undercuts, effective instruction for both students and adults.

At WestEd, Moyle cocreates professional learning systems and implementation plans that connect clear learning outcomes, existing improvement initiatives, and thoughtful uses of technology. His designs emphasize modeling, metacognition, and the development of the skills, knowledge, and mindsets educators need to drive lasting change. He also supports agencies responsible for designing their own professional learning, partnering with their designers and facilitators to sharpen adult learning expertise and strengthen facilitation. Through these efforts, Moyle helps education leaders integrate teaching innovations into practice in ways that are both sustainable and learner centered.

Moyle began his career teaching middle school in California’s Central Valley, where he also led districtwide professional learning to support the implementation of Common Core and the Next Generation Science Standards. He also designed and taught university courses that supported secondary science student teachers. These experiences anchor his commitment to practical approaches to professional learning. Drawing on both classroom and system-level work, Moyle continues to focus on supporting educators as they adapt to evolving realities and persistent challenges.
